As posted on Automobilemag.com forums for 2003 Odyssey:

Have a 2002 Odyssey with 84k. Like most others, the transmission recently started to "slip" when aceelerating, last Friday the engine light came on as well as a blinking "D". Took it into Walnut Creek (CA) Honda today and was told it was due to a torque converter failure and remedy was to replace transmission (as well as the ECM - which is a separate transmission computer) for a total cost of $4,739. I asked for some goodwill from Honda. The service advisor talked to the regional rep who offered 40%. Based on this thread, I think it should be better. I discussed issue with nearby Concord Honda and they said the Honda Rep is usually at 40%. I called American Honda in Torrance and have opened up a case with them. Will hopefully hear some better news in the next few days.

Now the decision is whether to fight the fight or pay the 60% (or whatever I end up with) and go after refund from Honda and/or join th class action.

As a Honda owner from 1980, this will really make me rethink buying Honda again.

Update 3/3 - Was able to get the District Rep (again, a no name person who doesn't talk to customers directly - to go to 50%. Dealer said that was the first time the District Rep has ever changed their mind. Given I need to get the car back I'll go with that and try to get more from American Honda with a letter to the president. Will contact Starnell as well.
