I had transmission failure on my 2004 Odyssey at 60k in Nov of 2007. Transmission was replaced under my purchased extended warranty, 100.00 deductible. Engine mounts also had to be replaced under this warranty.

Transmission failed again (quickly!) July 2009. I am 6k out of extended warranty at approx 97k on the vehicle. Called Honda America and opened a case. Was assigned to a caseworker. I have called and chatted with numerous people at Honda America but have yet to hear from or be able to speak to my case manager directly. Notes in the record state she has called the dealership, but dealership (service rep) has called me twice to advise he's not heard from Honda America.

Dealer quoted 4700.00 to install rebuilt Honda transmission, which would have 3yr/36k warranty. The last transmission failed at just over 37K! I am still waiting for the outcome of Honda's decision. I am without a vehicle for a week now. Inconvenienced is an understatement, as I cannot take my kids on their summer vacation with the van sitting at the dealership and have to depend on friends and family to get to work.

Honda American did not pay anything for the transmission. They said since the replacement transmission had not been purchased from Honda America (it was taken out of another Honda Odyssey---guess thats not genuine honda parts?), there wasn't anything they could do. The dealership was "generous" enough to offer me 10% off of the 4700.00 price for transmission and computer (which I didn't even need).

I called around. AAMCO local shop works on Odyssey's for one of their fleet customers. They replaced the transmission and added the external oil cooler (which Honda dealership did NOT do the first time they replaced the tranny) for 3200.00.  I was told they'd never had to replace the computer along with the tranny, but if they couldnt' reprogram, it would be about 800.00 installed. Still less than what Dealership was offering.

Went to pick up the Honda from the dealership to take it up the street. No one even asked where I was going or apologized for my troubles.  Sorry to say I won't be buying Honda again due to this poor experience.

I bought my 2004 Honda Odyssey with less than 20 miles.  Now with 85K miles the transmission fluid is leaking and the shop that I go to advice me to call Honda America if they will consider fixing it since it is under 100K.  Also, worth mentioning that 2 of my engine mount need replacing.  Hond America suggested that I take my Odyssey to a Honda dealer and have it evaluated or diagnose on my expense.  Then the dealer will inform the Corporate office and will wait for their response.  Meanwhile I will be out of about $120.00, drive my Van around hopefully it will not fall apart like what I been reading.

I, too bought 2 Honda (Civic 2001 and Odyssey 2004) based on words of reliability.  My Honda Civic tranny just gave up on me @ 120K at a cost of $1700 with an honest mechanic, Hi Tech, San Diego, CA.  I am now just finding out that Honda's tranny had been having major tranny issues.  If Honda America does not cover my 85K Odyssey transmiision, then I will be $2500K in the whole.

Those of you who owned a 2004 Odyssey, shall I just trade this Van or have it fix and keep it?  Suggestion is appreciated.  God bless you all.

While on my commute home yesterday, with 120k miles (under 30K on the 3rd transmission), I experienced the transmission slipping again. A few good thumps on gear switches, along with revving of rpms while the tranny tried to find the next gear.  Its in the shop again. I will wait and see. Ready to drive it off a cliff. Its not even paid off yet, and I've spent too much on it already.
