After doing much research and many test drives we purchased a used 2002 Honda Odyssey. We made this decision because of the excellent ratings Honda has for safety and reliability. We have owned the Odyssey for four years now and have not had any problems until last Friday. We were on a long distance family vacation when the transmission failed. It is currently sitting at Flagstaff Honda. They originally quoted us $4000 to have a rebuild transmission installed. After several phone calls they have dropped the price to $3164. We have also called Honda Customer Service at 1-800-999-1009. They have taken our basic information and will have a case manager call us back within 2 days (we did let them know we are stranded several hundred miles from home). At this point are looking to join anyone who is interested in filing a class action law suit. Our van only has approximately 85,000 miles on it. There is no reason it should have failed. We never towed anything with the van and do not drive in any kind of adverse conditions or manners. If anyone has any information on how to deal with Honda please let me know. Thanks.

I would also like to know if a class action has been started. My impeccably maintained 2002 Odyssey which I purchased new, needs to have the transmission replaced at 80,000 miles. American Honda has offered to pay 50% of the repair bill.

I'm not happy...., I think they should pay for the entire repair. This is a known problem, & I was told that the problem is caused by an internal defect.
