Original owner, paid full MSRP for the promise of Honda quality and reliability, abandoning my past American car purchase preference. Honda performed transmission recall service at 34,500 (all major service perfomed at Honda of Danbury). Replaced AC compressor this spring @93k for $1400. Tranny not engaging into 3rd at 95k. Honda service said multiple issues with vehicle including needs a tranny for about $3k. Suggested cash for clunkers program but does not qualify. Found this website and discovered I'm having the same problem as everyone else - clearly a design flaw or planned obsolescence. Mentioned this and asked service rep to call Honda and request assistance. Get a call back, transmission repair now $3999 but with Honda America assistance $2999. Call Aamco - they want $2200 with 1yr/12k mile warranty. Don't feel Honda should profit from repairing design flaws and price gouge customers. File Honda America claim - week later rep call with same and final deal as local dealer. Rep says you can't go by what you read on the Internet. Definately a broken record. Reject $1 assistance offer.

Now hate Honda for not taking responsibility for lousy Japanese engineering (or brilliant plan to get more money from stupid former American customers?).

Now 3 weeks later and vehicle still sitting in driveway needing a new tranny (using son's car) - any suggestions??? Thanks.

I am in the same boat, and I got the same BS.  Don't believe what you read on the internet...

Yah we not suppose to believe what we read on the internet and instead suppose to believe Honda Coporate?!!!

What a bunch of crap, it's because of the internet that's how people have become aware of Honda's shitty transmissions and they know this.  Come on it's not rocket science, the same crappy tranny has been used in the Odyssey, Pilot, Accord, Prelude, Acura TL & CL and just google any of those names with "transmission problems" behind it and you see literally tens of thousands of complaints.

This was obviously a design flaw that Honda is just trying to band-aid until peoples warranties are over then ripping them off for the repairs.  They try to make as if they're doing you a favor but offer "goodwill".  How can it be goodwill when it was a design flaw to begin with.

I guess it takes people dieing (like in Toyota's case with the floor mates issue of all things) to finally issue a full recall and not just extended warrenty.

I am convinced the "Goodwill" is a load of crap.  I think the price cost around $3000, and the dealerships start higher than that and then pitch the goodwill bs to try to make us feel better about getting screwed.  I bet the discount is really coming from the dealership depending on your service history from them.
