I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey purchased new from Honda in Kentucky. At 13199 miles the tansmission started slipping in 2nd and 3rd gear. It was towed to the Honda dealership where they checked it, said they could not reproduce it and cleared whatever error code was in the computer. At this time they added the 2nd gear oil jet kit under warranty. Everything seemed OK for the next 6 years or so. We had our major 30,000 and 60,000 mile service done at this dealership. The van was never driven hard or ever towed anything and we did not have the towing package. At 63,542 miles the transmission started to slip again in 2nd and 3rd gear. We drove it to the dealership where they told us that we needed a new transmission at a cost of $3685 dollars and an additional $900 for the transmission computer (PCM) that may or may not be bad. I had already done some reading online about the problems with Honda transmissions and th recall of the 1998-2001 transmissions. I told the dealership that this is a known problem with these transmissions and it should be replaced at no cost to me. I told them I had done my research online and it was not acceptable for Honda to not pay for the replacement including labor. The service rep told me that they deal with this on a case by case basis through the District Servie manager and he was pretty sure that he would not replace it at 100% cost and if he couldn't get his to replace it at full cost then what would make me happy. I told him if he wanted me to remain a Honda customer then full replacement at no cost to me would accomplish that. Anything other than that I would have to consider it but it should be at least 75% parts and labor on the trans and PCM. He would speak to the service rep that afternoon about the problem. When I heard back from the service rep later that day he told me that they would replace the trans and the PCM at a cost to me of $2600. I told them to go ahead since I couldn't haggle over this for weeks on end since my wife needs a vehicle to transport the kids. Also it seems that the more you haggle with Honda the less they pay in the end. After checking the numbers it looks like I paid aout 60% and Honda paid 40% of the cost quoted. When I picked up the van 2 days later I told the service rep that I still was not very satisfied with the cost but he said the the service rep was generous that day and he usually doesn't pay that much. It is possible that I got extra off because I had had all of my major servicer through that dealership and had just spent $500 2 months prior on new rear window openers and I was going to have my fuel guage fixed at a cost of $400 while the transmission was being fixed. I thankded the service rep for doing what he could but told him that I probably would never see him again because I have no plans of ever owning another Honda. he told me the he can't blame me, shook my hand and I left.

What a joke.  I can't believe they didn't cover it for you since you bought it new there, and did all the maintenance there.  I was a second owner with no records, and I paid $3000.  They told me had I kept all my maintenance reciepts they would have covered more.  Call Jared Stamell Phone: 212-566-4047 and give them your info.  They are supposed to start a class action lawsuit once they have enough people.
