Purchased our 2002 Odyssey in March 2002.  The vehicle is driven primarily by my kids and my wife.  About 3 weeks ago we drove the Odyssey about 120 miles to the college my daughter attends.  During this trip I noticed the transmission seemed to be shifting "hard".  One of the shifting "events" was accompanied by a large RPM swing.  I asked my wife if she had noticed this sort of behavior before and she said that she had noticed it.  I asked how long it had been occuring.  She said quite a while but couldn't give me a reliable amount of time.  When I got home from the trip we called the local Honda Service Department and set up an appointment for the next morning.  When we drove into the dealership we had about 109, 200 miles on the odometer.  After evaluating the vehicle, the Service Manager informed me the transmission needed to be replaced.  We discussed the situation:  I indicated that I was aware that the Odyssey had a history of transmission problems and I expressed my disappointment with this expensive repair.  He indicated that he could take the issue to a Regional Service Rep [I don't remember the exact term so that's probably not correct] and could ask for "assistance".  This was agreed to and I drove the Odyssey home and it sat in my garage until my local Service Manager called me and let me know the Regional Rep had offered to replace the transmission for half the normal cost of the transmission - labor was not included in this reduction.  I asked what the total amount would be and was told the figure would be about $2700.  I agreed to this arangement.  The van is being repaired as I write this report.

Sorry to hear about your van...

Funny how your 50% price is $2700, and the post right before yours was 50% at $2261.  Mine was 25% off at $3000.  The math just doesn't add up...

I guess that is why they call it case by case, so they can make it up as they go.

Actually it might add up - Mine was 50% off of the Transmission only - not the labor.   I'm assuming the 50% case you referred to was 50% off the total bill and I'm assuming your 30% off was a total bill reduction also.

My 2001 Odyssey which has 93k miles will have it's 4th transmission (including the original one) on Monday.  I would not accept the 50/50 deal, so they gave me a better one.  They are paying 75%.  I pay 25% and I get a 3 year 36,000 warranty.  Don't give in!  They know they have a faulty product.  I let them know that I had done hours of research on the internet and found 1,000's of people with the same problems.  Torque converter is the code that they get when testing the transmission.  I think the biggest problem is that it is 'American' Honda.  I have 3 years to trade my Honda in, and I will never, ever buy another Honda.  It's Toyota or Nissan for me!  Get the word out!  Save others and punish Honda!

I don't think your situation is an apples to apples comparison with mine.  I've had the vehicle for over 7 years.  Yes my transmission should last longer than that but the Honda warranty expired long ago.  Your warrenty (on the replacement transmission) probably had just expired unless you had gone through 3 transmissions in under 5 years.  I think you were in a stronger position that I would be.  They could very easily have told me to take a hike.  [That wouldn't have been smart from a customer relations standpoint but they could have done that.]   I'm happy you got a better deal but, while I'm not happy with my situation, I think my deal was fair under the circumstances.
