Bought our Honda Odyssey van NEW in July 2001.  Paid full price because they were so popular and in short supply.  Had problems with the transmission in my Chrysler minivan and didn't want to worry about such things again!  Hah!@!

First transmission failed at 77,000 and all repairs were paid for by Honda.  Second transmission failed this past August at 120,000 miles!  Honda would only pay for 1/2 this time, despite only getting 43,000 on the second transmission.  It cost us $1700, which compared to some others here, doesn't look too bad.  Of course, we shouldn't have had pay a penny!!

We did ALL our service, including oil changes and tires, at our local dealership.  They claimed to have never had a transmission fail twice, but I wonder..............   It seems to be very common.

Remember, that transmission that your fiendly dealer will replace it for you? That is also a refurbished one, not a new one. I personally do not see a difference between what the dealer will give you than a re-built one from any tranmission shop.
