I bought a new 2009 Odyssey EX-L. It has about 1000 miles on it. I am noticing that in speeds less than 35 to 40 miles per hour the transmission is acting funny. I took the car to the dealership for a safety recall that was to do with reprogramming the master computer module (don't know exactly what they did) but i believe that the problem I perceive happens only in lower speeds. The Van rides fine in higher speeds and i do not see any transmission related problem at higher than 40 mph speed.
The lower speed issue is more to do with improper gear shifts. Has anyone noticed similar problems?

I also noticed the same thing 45-50 mph on my 2009 model with 2800 miles.
I took it to dealer and they did software update which did not fix the issue. Then they changed torque converter and the issue is still there. There is nothing else to do at this point according to American Honda whose transmission specialist/engineer reviewed screen shots of transmission scan. Very sad as this is my 3rd Honda. Will have them check it again in 6 months.

I have a 2009 LX with 7000 miles on it and the decelleration downshifting is very jerky when at speeds less than 45. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow for a checkup..
I also had the master cylinder replaced at 350 miles. Was defective and pedal would not release completely from the floor.
3rd, the engine is making a pinging knocking noise.
Last Honda I will ever buy.

Our 2008 EX-L has 35000 miles and is starting to shift very abruptly -- particularly on downshifts. i will take it to the dealer to begin a file on it -- seems like this will help if I have a more significant problem later on. This is our 2nd Odyssey and we absolutely love the vehicle with the exception of this issue.

I'm having the same problem with my 2009 Odyssey EX. We bought it in June 2009 and it now has about 5000 miles on it. It downshifts rough at lower speed driving - I notice it more around 25-30 mph, but sometimes up at 40 mph. It's great at highway speeds. They've given me both the software update as well as the new torque converter, but nothing has changed. I get the impression they don't know what else to do, and neither do I. I might take it to another dealer. We love our new van except for this issue.

2008 EX-L, about 40k miles, sudden downshifts. Today it went from 40-20 with a hard downshift. This is after the computer and torque converter replacement. The computer replacement did nothing. Thought it was fixed with with the torque converter about a month ago. Other issue before converter replacement was engine shuttering, like it was stalling.

Yes I am also experiencing the same problems. They claim that the vehicle is operating under normal conditions.
Now when the van is in park or in neutral i hear a terrible knocking noise. I'm going to go in now for the 6th time on this transmission issue. I will NEVER own a honda again.

I also noticed the same symptom @ 5-50 mph on my 2008 Honda Odyssey with 23000 miles, specially during downshift it jerks and RPM shoots by about 100-300RPM.
I took it to dealer and they did software update which did not fix the issue. Then they changed torque converter and the issue is still there. There is nothing else that they can do at this point according to American Honda. In addition they said this is a normal operating behaviour of newer Odyssey, i am surprised that i have never seen this problem before 23000 miles but only after 23000 miles, i think it is normal condition life of Odyssey... Funny.. Very sad as i was thinking Honda known for the customer service and reliability.
Other problems are hard power stearing, shuddering @ 40-60 mph, vibration ect... Hope somebody will look at all this and take some action?
