It's almost comical, if it didn't hurt the bank account so much, how Honda is treating this issue. My 2002 has never shifted correctly but I attributed it, early on, to automatic "gremlins" as I am primarily a manual transmission guy. I remember the local Honda dealer "looking" at a second gear problem as part of a manufacturer recall in 2004 but that was all that was ever mentioned to me on my numerous regular maintenance trips to this dealer.
Somewhere in the early 50K mile range the transmission in my Odyssey began shifting quite rough. I made an unscheduled trip to the dealer where they "inspected" it but "couldn't find" any problem despite the known issues with this transmission. I'm quite convinced that Honda's MO with this issue it to deny there is a problem(if you visit for transmission issues) until the transmission fails. Then they will claim the vehicle has too many miles on it and is out of warranty and the owner, out of luck.
It's shrewd calculation on Honda's part but, in the end, it will come back to haunt them as they are neglecting one of the golden rules of business, customers receiving poor quality/service will tell many more peopole about their experiences than customers who receive good quality/service. Rest assured, I'm doing my part.
