Second owner of 2002 Odyssey (at purchase, 40K+ mi.).  At approx. 100K mi., trans started slipping.  Drove to Honda dealership to check trans fluid.  Dealer said fluid level OK.  Happened again.  Checked with trusted independent mechanic and was told of transmission issues and class action law suit covering through 2001.  Started researching issues on-line, spending hours at a time.  Extremely disheartened with number of complaints and lack of responsiveness from Honda for a problem that is obviously THEIRS to solve. The trans. issue certainly didn't stop with 2001 judging from on-line consumer complaints and my experience.

I did call Honda Hdq. to ask for help.  Didn't get past the first tier, bored customer service rep, who asked the mileage, if I was original owner and if the van had all Honda service records.  Said they couldn't be of any assistance.  When I asked for a supervisor or someone else to talk to about the problem, I was refused.

In reading that many are on their 2nd or 3rd transmissions!, I saw that Jasper transmissions were getting better feedback.  Checked with my mechanic again as to cost (they are more expensive).  He spoke with Jasper, who indicated that they were hearing that some of the Honda transmission problems also included a defective Honda computer.  They felt that if this computer was not replaced and "flashed" at the time any brand transmission was replaced, it might go out again.  My mechanic then called a Honda dealership parts contact, who told him that when Honda orders in a trans., that the computer automatically comes with it.  This mechanic was not pleased to hear this, as he has ordered Honda rebuilt transmissions in the past for other customers and no mention has ever been made to him of a computer issue, nor was one shipped with the trans.

As unfortunate owner of one of these Honda vehicles, I am left with deciding to outlay thousands for a replacement transmission (and computer?) in the HOPE that the transmission will not go out again.  Doesn't sound like a logical gamble to me.

It's time for a second class action suit to join for 2002+ models.  If anyone knows of one in progress or being planned, please advise.  Honda is obviously doing all they can to minimize their exposure and outlay on this issue.  No one in my circle of family and friends will go near Honda in the future.

I also have a 2002.  I had mine replace at the dealership, and I did get a new computer with it.  I have noticed hard shifting already, ours was replaced about 16 months ago.  The only positive thing about getting it done at the dealership is that they usually give you a 3yr/36K mi warranty.  I have read several positive posts about Jasper transmissions.

I called the attorney in NY a few weeks ago who was supposed to start a new class lawsuit.  They said the other firms that were going to be involved backed out, so they were no longer going to start one.  So we need to find a new attorney...  I have no idea out to start that process...  Anyone?

You should try calling Honday again.  They should give you at least 25%.  I was a second owner...

I too called attorney Jarred Stammell in New York and his rude secretary told me they were no longer going through with a second lawsuit. I asked why, but wouldn't say. I have this feeling that Honda with their billions managed to pay some of these attoneys off.

It appears Japan no longer has the corner on quality anymore. Toyota has persistent massive recalls and lawsuits. Hopefully, the government will step and twist Honda arm backwards till it hurts to fix our problems with these faulty transmissions before someone gets killed.

Nobody cares about quality and safety anymore, not even the Japanese. Certainly not China.
