My Odyssey EX has only 83000 miles, tranny slips and won't engage from

2nd gear to 3rd.  A large semi truck almost rear ended me as I merged onto

the freeway, travelling only  20 mph while stuck in 2nd gear.   The dealer

quoted me $3800 and would replace the entire trans with a rebuilt one.  I am seeking legal

counsel to determine if we have a legitimate class action suit against Honda.  If you are not

convinced that the tranny's on Honda 2002 are faulty, ask me.  I own 2x Honda 2002 vans

an LX and EX, and both of them have the same tranny problem.

There is an attorney in Cincinnati, OH who is well known for successful class action law suits.  He is currently filing suit against Toyota for their current troubles. If someone wants to contact him to furnish odysseytransmission.com for informative reading, perhaps he would take up the cause.  His name is Stanley M. Chesley, and he is known as one of the nation's top class action attorneys.  The web site for the law firm is:  www.wsbclaw.com.  I realize my previous post prompted others to elect me to launch the contact, but I am not able to at this time.

I guess Honda is waiting for someone to die, before they own up to the problem.

My wife was on a busy road (thank goodness not a highway) when ours stalled the first time (it happened more than once).  She had our three small kids in the car, and had to coast to the side of the road because it wouldn't engage in 3rd gear.  Luckily there was no one behind her.

Keep us posted on this site with your progress on the class action lawsuit.  Or use the Contact Us page, and I will send out an email to all the people that have posted on this site.

Thanks,

Founder of OdysseyTransmission.com

The only reason Toyota is owning up to the brake failures is because there have been people that died.  The deaths the finally broke the camel's back so to say was the one where the people the in the Lexus died in San Diego.  The driver was also an off duty CHP officer....they then started playing the frantic 911 call from one of the passengers just before everything went silent and they all DIED!

Since no one has actually DIED from these Honda/Acura transmission failures yet, Honda will just play dumb and tell you that you're the only one who's having transmission problems and to not believe what you read on the internet.  What a bunch of crock.

So sad that someone or an entire family for that matter has to die and Honda gets slapped with a wrongful death suit before they own up to the problem.

If they did a recall it will be just as massive as Toyota's.  We're talking about the Odyssey, Pilot, Accord, MDX, TL, CL. All these used the same crappy, shitty transmission.

On a side note, like another posted wrote here in the forums. We all need to band together and get a class action suit going instead of letter Honda treat every case individually so they can "divide and conquer" us one at a time.

Did you have a transmission go out in an Acura TL?  Same story as the Odyssey?

I am in on the lawsuit!

AcuraTL NA Posted: 02/11/2010

Yes I did. If you go to google and type Acura TL transmission problems...you'll see tons of post in Acura forums with tranny failures in the TL and CL and also some MDX.  The post goes as far back as 2003-2004 with the earliest reported tranny failures.  Some members have even had their trannys replace more than twice.  Some 3 or even 4 times. Reason is it's a defective designed tranny.  Put in another one and it will still fail.

Honestly the 2004 recall Honda/Acura had where they installed the oil jet was just bogus.  That didn't address the real problem which is the 3rd gear clutch pack.  That's why no one can shift from 2nd into 3rd where their tranny goes.  That oil jet was to address the 2nd gear which is not the cause of the tranny failures.  Notice how everyone who did the oil jet recall still had their trannys go out anyways.

Notice how Honda/Acura wants to address each tranny failure seperately.  So they can make it seem like they're helping you pay for some of the repair when in fact they should recall they damn thing since it's obviously a design flaw which they won't admit too.  Again because there is not enough media attention yet since no one has died yet.  Sad I know.

MyTheory NA Posted: 02/12/2010

My Theory is that Honda is not really helping anyone when you end up paying around $3K.  I think that is what it really costs.  They tell the dealers to jack the price up to $4k to $5K, then when you open a case they say - oh we will help with 25% or 35%, your cost will now be $3K.

Some people are just paying labor and pay $700 to $1K, now those people are really getting some help.  The 25% off is a load of BS...

This is just ridiculous. This is the 4th time my transmission is off and I am tired of this. I'm gonna call the honda headquarters tomorrow and not hang up until I get at least another free transmission fix. I also own a honda accord and i absolutely love it but the odyssey is just ruining every good thought i ever had about honda. I just wish there was some way all of us could unite to fight against honda but its just impossible.

TomaxTL NA Posted: 02/13/2010

Like I said it's a faulty designed transmission.  They will keep putting in the same shitty designed rebuilt tranny if you get it replaced by Honda.  And guess what....it will continue to fail like you've already experienced over and over again.

I and the rest of the people here feel your pain.  There were a lot of lawsuits filed against Toyota for wrongful deaths since there were so many deaths due to the sudden acceleration problems.  Sadly Honda won't own up to their faulty transmission because no one has died yet and it hasn't gotten the media attention.  I have already vowed never to but another Honda product again.
