You should probably take that deal if it is total cost; then you need to change the fluid in it. I am amazed all of you who know the problem, but do nothing different and then complain about the results.
People are reporting the same problems with the Jasper (like all remans - its still a fundamentally flawed honda box). Im only on this forum to help my sister w/ the same problem. I am a private BMW mechanic by choice. I left Honda years ago after the passing of Mr. Honda, their cars just got boring after he passed; but I dont drive automatics either. The problem is Honda is using its own transmission design instead of the industry standards. If you want these to last you must change the fluid in these units. A fluid change will change minute (funky) shifting problems in the boxes when they first appear. You might also consider a complete flush which Im guessing would be 9-12 quarts. The problem w/ Honda and all Japaneses makes is that everything is designed for "just enough" engineering; the low oil capacity of these engines is almost laughable; example 2.5 liter in honda is probably 4-5 quarts, a bmw is 7. Therefore the oil becomes contaminated at almost twice the rate; not to mention the tiny size filters used.
I might be changing my sisters w/ a rebuilt box, not sure yet - they went ahead and leased a new Odyssey, but didn't know that the local stealership was only going to give them $900 for the old one. There is a good rebuilder on ebay. For the rest of you, if you have a trustworthy private shop then I would get a price up front and use the ebay rebuilder. I would state to "flush" all the cooling lines in the vehicle in addition. I would then change the tranny fluid (4 quarts) on every other engine oil change.
The days of long lasting automatic transmission are over; modern day electronic transmission (without torque converters) will not last like your dads car. If you think you have problems, then talk to some Ford Mercury all wheel drive owners. Best of Luck.
