Having to replace our 2ND transmission in under 8 years on our 2002 Honday Odyssey.  First transmission went up at 60,000 miles/just 3 years old.  Luckily we had bought the extended Honda Care warranty that covered that transmission.  Now the van has 170,00 miles on it and the second transmission has went up.  The reason we bought HONDA was for reliability. I would have bought something else if I expected the transmission to go up twice in under 8 years.

It is obvious there is an issue with the 2002 transmissions and Honda is taking no responsibility for it.  At this point even if they replaced the transmission and paid for it, how long before I need another one? Putting the same model/type transmission back into these vans is NOT fixing the issue.  I have had the WORST customer service from HONDA this past year.  Sad thing is we just purchased a 2009 Odyssey in June. Would have never spent more money on a Honda had I known we would be treated so poorly.  My husband comlained for months that there were issues with the transmission on our 2002 Odyssey and he was always told nothing was wrong and sent on his way.

When you pull the gear shift from park it bangs into any gear you put it in, whether it be Reverse, Drive, Drive2, it doesnt matter.  The engine has been slipping for months, and on one occassion my husband took the van in and was told there was no transmission fluid in the van.  Instead of checking for leaks, they put more fluid in it and sent my husband on his way. We have only had this van serviced at a Honda dealership, it has always been taken in for oil changes and scheduled maintenance. It is very disheartning to have Honda treat us so poorly.  I am fed up and will NOT buy another Honda product.  If they cannot stand behind their vehicles I will not continue to buy them and do my best to make sure every person I know hears my story.

We also have had issues with our 2002 Odyssey transmission.  The first time in 2005 (69,000 miles) it was replaced under full warrenty.  The 2nd time, last week (161,000 miles- <90,000 on 2nd transmission), the 2nd transmission failed.  After the service manager spoke with the regional manager, I was not given the discount I expected.  The best deal they offered was $3300 for parts and labor and a 3 yr, 36,000mile warrenty, which was worse that the average price ($3K) noted on this websites homepage.  I pulled the vehicle from the dealer and I'm having the transmission rebuilt for about $2,000 (1yr, 12,000 mile warrenty).  Talk with a few people and try to find an "honest" transmission rebuilder.  Even AAMCO might be cheaper.  As soon as my vehicle is fixed, I'm trading it for a new vehicle.  BUT NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A HONDA PRODUCT (ACURA).

You have my sympathy! Good Luck.

my sympathies to you as well. I am going to push until I get Honda to admit there is an issue, if I have to get a local news station to look into my story I will. Honda has not seen the last of me. I will not go away quietly. Anywhere I can file a complaint, I will, anyone who will listen I am telling.  Good luck to you!

I suggest everyone post messages anywhere in any chat room to tell people about "Honda Odyssey Transmissions have problems" and provide links to this website. I wished someone have done this so that I got aware of it before it was too late. I am a first owner of a 2000 Honda Odyssey with only 89000 miles on it and now the transmission fails and it is beyond the waranttee. I got absolutely no notice of any extended warrantee and I waitted too long for the problem to show up and that was what Honda wanted! Now they say they will cover a "whopping" $600 for the cost of a new transmission with the van having no resell value at all! Why in the hell would Honda be allowed to do this to the consumers?

I do not have time to write my case yet. But I will and I will spread the "news" so that people do not become a victim of Honda like myself! Please do the same to help others.
