hello all,
I am just shy of 89,000 miles on my 2003 Odyssey and my tranny is about to go out on me. I am very good at working on cars and know when things are not what they should be.
I have been having some erattic gear changes happen every now and again in the last year. Since then, I have been dreading every time I get into the Odyssey, the transmission would fail.
This weekend I was changing the front struts and noticed something funny. With the wheels off and the car in Park, I could rotate the axles. Not a good thing when they should only move about 1/5 of a turn at best!!
I also noticed that the right shaft could be pulled in and out of it's socket (inside the inner boot).
Once the car was put back together, I started the car up and heard some funny whining sound that changed with RPM that was not there before.
I started driving the van and the noise got louder the faster I went. Definitely a sign the tranny was having issues. I checked the fluid level and it was spot on, so that was not issue.
Today, we were driving the van and accelerated onto an on-ramp. The engine just revved high and then the TCS and Check engine light came on. We limped the car to our destination.
I disconnected the battery to reset the computer to see if that would fix the issue.
It fixed the check engine light and TCS but driving it back home, we could not exceed 3500RPM or else the tranny would start bucking. So this is definitely a dying transmission.
We have had the oil bi-pass service recall done and all servicing of the tranny made.
I will be going to the dealer on Monday (tomorrow) to discuss options for tranny replacement.
