I have a 2002 EXL. I purchased it used in 04 with 35000 miles. It now has 107000. Back in Sept, 09, one of the check engine lights came on. I called our local dealership ( I have been going to dealers rather than outside repair places). I spoke to one of the service reps and told him of the problem. He said it might be the fuel filler cap wasn't properly tightened or it was the transmission. He said to take it to an outside vendor to check out. I had the local mechanic check it out and, sure enough, it was the tansmission. He rebuilt the tranny for a total cost of $2700. After finding all this info about the trannys, I now believe they new it was the tranny and did not inform me of the known problems, or offer check it out. I guess they can probably deny a claim if they didn't repair. The only reason I came across this was because I was trying to investigate a turn in price or private sale price on the car. I have been out shopping for a new car. I will go have a talk with my local dealer since I was there looking at the CRX s.
