I have written before about my 2007 odyssey transmission slipping at 65,000 miles.  They gave me a cost of over $4000 to replace.  It isn't bad yet just from time to time you feel it slipping.  Good news, just got a recall notice in the mail last week that covers Transmission computer update, clutch, brakes.  Hopefully this will do the trick.  I called yesterday and they said they could get me in same day, took about 3 hours.  They took me home and picked me up.  Fortunately, I had a coupon they had sent the day before to get my oil changed, took care of all of it.  Lets hope this is the last time I will need to deal with this, they had great customer service, Honda dealership Westminster CO on 104th ave.

I live in TX and I had never got a notice from Honda.  I am wondering if the notice you received is Nationwide?  Do you have a copy or any info you could send me?  I have a quote of 4k, they lowered to 3k but still I don't have that amount of $.  Please help with any advise.

The letter came from this letter head:

Honda

Honda Automobile division

American Honda Motor Co, Inc.

1919 Torrance Blvd., - PO Box 2215

Torrance, CA  90509-9870

Phone:  800-999-1009 opt 4

here are the two different recalls they have: this includes 2007,2008,2009

  • PCM update for Lock-Up Clutch Function (transmission softward update) problem- a transmission judder or vibration felt while driving between 20-45mph, if this is not fixed it will damage the transmission according to the letter)
  • Low or Soft Brake Pedal (problem-air in the brake systems VSA modulator)

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Another question, what happened after you show them the letter?, did they changed the transmission or only change the software problem.  I am wondering the difference between the original estimate $4,000 and what they really did at the end.  Thanks again

They took care of the software update.  If that is not taken care of, then the transmission will go bad, according to the letter.  It sounds like in your case this is what has happened.  I believe I caught it earlier enough.  They are still liable for this since they recognized the issue and if they had sent the notice out when it first started happening a lot of people probably wouldn't be going through this. I would still contact them and ask them for a letter.  I think I would call them and let them know you know someone with the same year oddyssey that got a letter regarding the recalls I mentioned and you haven't recieved your letter yet. I don't know that I would mention that it needs replacing unless they ask.  If they will send the letter to you, you have legs to stand on with the dealer.
