I  go onto Honda Ody's Facebook page and let them know how "happy" I am with their product!  Honda types in these messages like "It's summertime...what is your favorite amusement park ride?"  I typed in..."taking my family out for a drive on the highway in my 2002 Ody with the second tranny failing!!! Yipee!!!"

Great sense of humor!!  I feel that the only way I can get "even" with Honda is to comment to "new" victims and give them guidance.  I am not a Facebook person. However, I believe that the internet has given the world a great podium from which to speak.  It was expensive for me to replace my transmission twice, but I will get great justice by helping others to not buy another Honda product.  By the way, does your clock light work? And did your SRS light go on? Do your side doors stick on occasion? Then go backwards. How are your motor mounts???   Ah, HaHaHa........... After all - it's a Honda.

My 2003 transmission went out at 102,000 miles --- 2,000 miles AFTER the extended warranty.  I had to laugh at your comments -- Yep, the clock light went out.  The doors stick.  The motor mounts have been replaced twice -- fortunately under the warranty.  Add another to your list ... no heat in the rear.  I am still driving it for now, but I will be trading in next year for something else -- not a HONDA!  :)

Did you guys see this link Larry posted on the site a few weeks ago?

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6naMtwBgwRKMDBicGVvTnUzNkE/edit

Honda is reimbursing people if their tranny failed due to secondary shaft bearing failure, which I believe is probably quite a few of us especially with years 1999 through 2004.  I think the 2005 to 2007's had a different issue.

Anyway I sent this form in a few weeks ago with my reciept and I got a check yesterday!

I am the one that started this website, and I am going to post this info on the home page, and add a link to this form.

Hope you can get reimbursed too....

Ronnie

I'm going to try this for my first one that went in 2006.  Unfornutely, I traded in my Ody for a Sienna after the second tranny went...I couldn't see paying over 6000 in repairs...motor mounts, swaybars, tranny,....for an '02 with 178,000 miles on it.  Figured the tranny would go again.  Ha, your post was funny, because my clock didn't work, the side doors were manual and stuck from day one!  The dealership said it was because there was "gunk" in the runners....like cheerios and goldfish.  Please!  Even after "cleaning" the doors stuck and even froze shut in the winters.  Can't tell you how many times the kids crawled over the front seats or in thru the back door!  I had truly loved my Honda, even with all these defects, however when the second tranny went and the dealership that I did all my service with said first "it wasn't the tranny...and then secondly that yeah it was, but I could drive it for 50 miles or 5000 miles before it went, so just drive it til it drops".  Guess they never had the fun experience of losing power on the highway with the kids in the back!  Love how Honda stood behind a loyal 4x Honda owner.  No more Hondas for me!

Ronnie, I know you started this site some time ago, and you deserve much credit for that.  You have done a great service for consumers.  Regarding Larry's previous post, I looked at the requirements and feel a little "cheated."

My first transmssion failed on an interstate in 2007.  Traumatic failure with fluid leaking.  Towed to my Honda dealer.  No diagnosis.  Just a replacement.  $1,000 charge for labor (after much argument).  When the second one started to go, my mechanic got the code and said "It is toast."  He is not a transmission specialist.  Then the Jasper repacement.  $4,100. Today things are fine.

Unless someone is dealing with a "Larry" - who is a certified specialist, how can a diagnosis be done?  I am sure it is not a code, but a tear-down diagnosis.  The people who got work done in past years have receipts that say "new transmission - $4500." The Honda notice seems like a lame attempt to play politics.  Who cares how the thing failed?  The owners don't drive them like Corvettes.

Anyway, thank you for your service....

Yeah, I agree with you.  I pulled up my reciept, and it didn't say anything about "secondary shaft bearing failure".  I called the dealership where I had the work done, and they didn't know either.  So I thought well I guess I will try anyway, no one really knows what was wrong with it....

Rixx NA Posted: 07/11/2012

I called American Honda after seeing the 'secondary shaft bearing recall notice posted in this thread. Talked with a young man that told me that there was only one recall back in 2004, and it was already taken care of.  Although it wasn't a 'secondary shaft recall...?

Didn't believe him, hung up and called back. Was told basically the same thing....no new recall for Odyssey's.

Already got all my paperwork together, and will be mailing it in anyway.  Why not?

Anybody elase have any luck?

THANKS!!

Ronnie NA Posted: 07/11/2012

I called the dealership, they didn't know anything about it.  They said: well Honda covered 25% of your transmission repair, so I don't think you will get anything else.

I sent it in anyway, and got a check...  I was shocked, still am...

Notice there isn't a date anywhere on this form...

The only thing I sent in was the receipt from the dealership.

Go for it!

Good luck!

Let us know the outcome, I think mine took 3 or 4 weeks.

Rixx NA Posted: 07/11/2012

They paid 50% of mine, or so they said. My portion was right around 3000.00 still.

I have the receipt, and paperwork from the repair, sending it in today.. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks!

Rick

Hi Ronnie...  This is a message for you.  I have a 2004 Odyssey (bought new by us) with tranny failure at 114,000 miles.  I see where you did mail in the reimbursement form and received a refund.  Honda replied to my reimbursement form within 2 weeks and denied the reimbursement because  "other: the vehicle is not part of the recall"..  Could you tell me what year your Odyssey is?  I thought this reimbursement would cover the 2004's.  My Honda letter states that I can dispute this up to 9/3/12.

I didn't know that Honda was reimbursing any transmission repair dollars based on a recall.  But my letter denies reimbursement based on my vehicle not being part of the recall.  I have never seen any information sent out about a recall on Odysseys.  Anyone else ever see info on Odyssey transmission recalls?

I believe you had your transmission repaired at a dealership, and I had mine done at an independent shop.  Maybe Honda does not want to reimburse if the repair was done at an independent shop (even though the form shows the repair could be done at an independent shop).  I am in Arizona, I don't know if the location in the country has anything to do with dollars being reimbursed or not.

Schmitz NA Posted: 08/08/2012

Guess what?

Got a check today for 2509.00!!!!

Honda originally paid for 1/2 the cost of my replacement tranny at 164,000 too. So, now they paid 100% of the replacement cost for me.

They have 'almost' restored my faith in them. They should have come out with a recall for this problem in the first place. Not make people jump through hoops to make up for the tranny's shortfalls.

SEND those receipts in fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ronnie NA Posted: 08/08/2012

Awesome congrats! I need to get the word out...

I was waiting to see if it worked for anyone else.

Angel, I bet they only pay it if the work was done at a Honda dealership. Mine was a 2002. There was a recall on 2002 to 2004. My recall work was done with the previous owner. At least that is what they told me.

Ronnie

Rixx NA Posted: 08/08/2012

Ronnie,

Can't begin to thank you enough!

I also will try and spread the word to others....  your website WORKS.

THANK YOU!!

Angel NA Posted: 08/08/2012

Ronnie...  I did not receive word on a recall notice on my 2004 Odyssey.  So I was not aware that there had been a recall..  Honda's reimbursement form does state that the repair bill can be from an independent shop, but one does not know how or what makes Honda pay.

In June the Honda dealer came back to us that the transmission repair would be $4,500, can you believe that?  They told me that I would need to pay $3,600 of it.  I thought no way.  I got it done less expensive at an independent shop and it probably is more reliable.

Ronnie NA Posted: 08/11/2012

Angel.

Maybe if you get something in writing from the shop that did the work that says the tranny failed due to secondary shaft bearing failure.  Then they might cover it?

Just a thought...

Good luck.

Ronnie

Hi everyone,

I sent my paperwork in...2002 Ody with the work done at a dealership.  I was told NOPE, not under a recall they won't pay anymore than they had originally which was about 50%.  I sent in all dealership invoices detailing that the tranny died and was replaced along with the original VISA receipts etc.  I also showed that I had the "recall" work done on the spray thing (sorry, can't remember off top of  head what this was called, they checked for metal bits in the tranny oil etc).

I now own a Toyota Sienna, which although is not as nice interior wise as the Honda, gives me a tremendous piece of mind that I won't have a tranny failure while traveling with my kids in the back.

I wish Honda had treated us better, we'd still be buying from them.  I will go without some extras they have inside the van that Toyota doesn't just so I don't have to do business with Honda again.
