Got a 2001 Odyssey, Transmission went out at 129K.  Re-manf. Honda tranny will be installed this week with a 3/36 warranty including rear engine seal, and fluid flush with tax $3,300.  I saw what was happening to these transmissions and decided I would change the fluid every 15K and made sure I used Honda ATF.  I guess it lived longer than most I have been reading about.  I am going to call American Honda now and see if they can help, if not at least I can log a complaint.  Needless to say I am disappointed like everyone else, I expect 200K out of this van before any major repairs.  I got 215K out of my Jeep and sold it with no transmission problems.  I have had the opinion that domestics have better transmission and this proves the point..... at least to me.

I purchased my first Honda, a 2001 Odyssey for MSRP after waited on waiting list and expected the van to last. I personally know three other people with 1999-2003 Odysseys that had their transmission replaced.  One other person with a 2005 Ody transmission also had slipping problems. Mine acted up recently by occasionally dropping into a lower gear when decelerating at 121K.  Dealer says I need new (remanufactured) transmission for $4700!  Asked for discount and price was lowered to $4300, which is still very high. Dealer didn't even go to bat with American Honda for me.  I called and was not offerred any assistance, and I was hoping at best for a 25% discount.  This may very well be my last Honda.  And after all the good things I heard about Honda quality.  No vehicle my family owned has ever had a transmission fail and certainly not at 121K!

I just took my 01 Odyssey in for a tune up and check engine light and they came back with your transmission is failing.  $5,500 please.  We have made it 145,000 miles which I thought should go a lot farther.  I have Explorer with 190,000 and had aJeep Grand Cherokee that had 225,000 with no problems.  Going out to get other quotes.

Add me to the victim list.  Bought a 2001 Odyssey from Duval Honda in 2003 with 32K miles on it.  Started having issues 4 months ago.  It currently has 144K miles on it so I guess I got more than most but I planned on driving it for another 2 or 3 years.  I drove my Accord until it had 193K on it.  Getting ready to pay $3,500 for a Jasper transmission.  Honda wanted over $4,000 for a Honda rebuilt.  I'm not giving them another penny.

Always thought I'd drive Honda's the rest of my life.  Time to try another manufacturer.
