Do late 2004 Odysseys have the problem?

We bought our 2004 Odyssey new in August 2004 as they were clearing them out to make room for the redesigned '05.  By then the transmission problems were FRONT PAGE NEWS as scores of older models were recalled & given the band aide fix. (Which we now know did not work...)

Since Honda was well-aware of the problem in 2004, we were told by EVERY Honda dealer that Honda redesigned the transmission in our late 2004 build, that it did not merely have the band-aide fix applied, and that we would not have the problems associated with earlier models...  Our transmission was also never recalled.

We're at 90,000 miles and have not had transmissions problems, but I wanted to know if there was any truth to their "redesigned" '04 transmission talk or were we fed a line?  About 6 different dealers told us the same thing...  If the redesigned '05 and '06 are having trouble, does this mean that there is no hope?  Should we sell before we get the $3000 bill?

Well, we have a 2004 Honda Odyssey and just hit the 100,000 mile mark and now the transmission problems have started.  My husband was driving the car when the check engine light went on and then the car started to hesitate until it just wouldn't drive anymore.  Luckily, he broke down in front of a mechanic shop.  Code P0740 has come up meaning we need a new tranny.  Called Honda today -- not covered.  Very disappointed in a vehicle that I truly loved until now.

Definitely sell it (or trade it in) before tranny goes bad.

Transmission on my 2004 Odyssey with 110,000 miles just went bad the other day.  Required remanufactured tansmission ($4,500 with 3 year and 50k mile warranty) from independent shop.  Also, I am the original owner and was never notified of 2004 transmission recall.  Will open case with Honda America.

I have a late year 2004 Honda Odyssey. I had been told that the transmission was fixed in mine, as well, as it was a late model year vehicle. They lied. My transmission went out 3 days ago at 102,500 miles. Very sad as I loved my van up until now. I don't trust it to not fail again, so after I get it fixed, need to figure out what to do with it.
