My 2002 Odyssey has 63,000 miles and it's transmission failed. I was driving it yesterday and it appeared like gear was not shifting from 2 to 3. Within a couple of minutes, engine light & TCS light came on. Immediately, I pulled to an auto repair shop nearby and had it diagnosed - has code P0730. I am yet to call American Honda and make a trip to dealer. Will update when I have more info...

Don't forget; unless Honda gives it to  you for free, either find a really good tranny rebuilder or get something like the Jasper rebuilds talked about on this forum.  IMHO, the Honda rebuilds are designed to last just past 3 years 36k miles before they self destruct again.

Welcome to the "we'll never buy Honda again club!".

WOW! I am so envious. Your car is barely broken in!  I just hit 225,000 miles.  You have discovered the achilles heal of the Honda marketplace.  As you can notice on the left of the sign-in page, the transmissions in the 00-03 Odysseys have an inordinate amount of failures.  My first (2002 also) failed at 105,000.  The Honda replacement failed at 36,000 more.  I then got a Jasper with a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty.  That was 2007.  Still running fine.  Not a bad car.  PLEASE DO NOT LET HONDA give you a rebuilt transmission with a crappy 36,000 warranty.  If you want to keep your car, get the transmission fixed right.  And some advice in advance.  Honda does not have any intention of helping you.  They want you to disappear. Regardless of their quote, they will not help you and the warranty will suck.  If you feel obligated to trust them - get in in writing.  American Honda is not the same company that it was 10 years ago.  As Pbug said - people don't want to buy another Honda because of the response to this situation.  I just bought my wife a 2012 Impreza - and I will never buy another Honda product.  Good luck to you.

Just an FYI.  My '02 Odyssey transmission went bye-bye in Sept of 2009.  It was replaced with a Jasper transmission with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.  The new tranny has 27,000 miles on it and it's on its way back to the transmission shop today.  Fortunately, I've only had it for 2.5 years so it's still under warranty.

Update:

Took it to the dealer on Friday and received call that Honda agreed to do a replacement for $2,800 with 3yr/36k warranty. I was leaning towards Jasper but now in a fix, based on NotAgain's feedback!

Not sure how the dealer came up with $2800 (it's neither 25% nor 50% like other posts here). Now going to contact Honda directly :(

Ninja, you have a decision to make.  I got the 3yr/100,000 mile warranty and never had to use it.  Neveragain makes the point that he has to use his warranty.  Still not a bad thing - except it reflects on Jasper's product.  My Jasper cost $4100 in 2008.  You might want to at least get a price on one.

If you drive less than 12,000 miles a year (which you must) then the warrranties are the same.  You might ask Honda why their warranty is only 36,000 miles.  Many people could have used a longer warranty because they drive much more than 12,000 miles per year.  My second Honda transmission failed at 36,000.  It is that reason why I wan't do business with them again....  The rebuild was as bad as the original.

I"m guessing, but I think that when Honda rebuilds its trannies it intends for them to work for 36k miles and no more, that they are not built to the original bad specs but to lower ones.
